Originally from Baltimore, Stefan moved to Northeast Ohio in 2015 when he joined the Cleveland Clinic as its first Chief Investment Officer. In this role, he is responsible for the strategic direction and management of the organization’s investment portfolios and serves on the Investor/Advisory Boards for multiple private equity and venture capital funds. Stefan has nearly thirty years experience as an investor, previously serving as the Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, a philanthropic organization he served for a decade. Earlier in his career, Stefan was a member of the general partner in two early stage venture capital firms and worked in commercialization and licensing of university-developed technology for Johns Hopkins and Virginia Tech.
Throughout his career, Stefan has been an advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion. He is a member of the LPAC for Sponsors for Educational Opportunity, an organization that provides education-to-career pathways into the investment industry for minority youth and college students. In addition, he is a founding member the Client Advisory Board for Lenox Park, a national consulting firm dedicated to measuring and increasing diversity in the investment sector.
He currently serves on the serves on the Investment Committees of The Cleveland Foundation and previously served a similar capacity for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the Baltimore Community Foundation and the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System. He holds an undergraduate degree from Washington College and a graduate degree from Johns Hopkins University.
Stefan lives in Moreland Hills with his husband, Kevin, and their two sons, Carter and Christopher.
