Tim Dehm brings a passion for urban revitalization and environmental stewardship to his role as a Planning and Design Specialist at Western Reserve Land Conservancy. With his commitment to creating vibrant and sustainable communities, Tim plays a crucial role in advancing the Land Conservancy’s mission through innovative projects and partnerships.
During his internship in 2019, Tim researched and developed the Ground Work program, through which he continues to repair the land and the relationship people have with their everyday landscape. His expertise in landscape architecture, design, and city and regional planning enables him to collaborate effectively with project partners and devise strategies that enhance the environment for Northeast Ohio residents. Tim’s work is guided by a belief in the transformative power of collaborative efforts to positively impact the environment for public benefit.
Tim’s goals align with his passion for creating equitable governance systems and policies that support environmental stewardship. He strives to reduce barriers for environmental stewards and empower individuals to maintain their environment as desired. These aspirations, coupled with his strong skills in mapping, graphic design, landscape design, community engagement, and writing, make Tim a valuable asset to the Land Conservancy.
Before joining the organization, Tim gained hands-on experience working on organic farms and orchards, where he learned about maintenance, tree care, and the power of trees to shape spaces. This knowledge now helps him support the Reforest Our City program by identifying sites for tree planting in priority neighborhoods.
Tim’s journey with the Land Conservancy began during his graduate studies and has continued ever since. Prior to graduate school, he traveled extensively, learning about cities and countryside through work-stay programs and teaching assignments in the US and abroad. These experiences have shaped his perspective and approach to urban planning and design.
Tim holds a Master of Landscape Architecture and a Master of City and Regional Planning from Cornell University, along with a Bachelor of Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He resides in Cleveland Heights with his family where he enjoys long walks, visiting the library, gardening, and reading. He embraces a car-free lifestyle.
