Hannah Kelling

Southwest Field Director

As the Southwest Field Director for the Land Conservancy, Hannah manages relationships with partners and landowners in the Southwest corner of the conservancy’s 29-county service area (Crawford, Richland, Ashland, Morrow, Knox, Holmes, and Coshocton counties). Her responsibilities include prioritizing, strategizing, and carrying out various types of conservation projects that include donated and purchased conservation easements, restoration projects, and land acquisition. She is also involved in the Land Conservancy’s carbon crediting and Lake Erie Watershed regional conservation planning efforts. Hannah is an active member of the Land Conservancy’s Sporting Circle and is a fledgling deer and turkey hunter.

Hannah has spent over a decade working in wild spaces as a backpacking and sea kayaking guide/instructor, experiential educator, and outdoor recreation program coordinator. This tenure brought her to beautiful places and dynamic teams, all working together to steward our natural resources and provide accessible, meaningful experiences within those spaces which inspire the next generation to guard and preserve it. Her primary focus is engaging community members from all walks of life – from the 5th-generation farmer to the forest-loving naturalist – to conserve Ohio’s unique habitats in perpetuity.

Prior to joining Western Reserve Land Conservancy, Hannah and her husband, Josh Scott, operated a brick-and-mortar outdoor gear exchange called The Cleveland Outpost, which opened during the COVID-19 pandemic. They used this entrepreneurial venture to recycle used outdoor gear back into the local community and to bring a sense of adventure to Northeast and Northcentral Ohio. The pair still serve as coastal kayak instructors with 41 North Coastal Adventures and can be found on Lake Erie year-round.

Hannah holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Kent State University and a Master of Science in Recreation Administration from Indiana University and worked with the outdoor adventure programs at both institutions. She is working towards a Certification in Project Leadership from Case Western Reserve University through their Weatherhead Executive Education Program and is an active member of the Land Trust Alliance’s Acquisition & Stewardship Peer Group.

An avid outdoorswoman, Hannah spends her time kayaking, canoeing, cycling, orienteering, backpacking, and trail running around the region with her husband. She is a practicing musician and artist and paints acrylic landscapes and natural flora/fauna on commission. Besides her wedding day, the best day of her life was the day her dog, Freya, joined her family.

Connect with Hannah and Western Reserve Land Conservancy to help provide the people of our region with essential natural assets through land conservation and restoration.
