Devon is passionate about outdoor recreation and environmental education. He strongly believes that people are healthier and happier when they have access to quality blue and green spaces and that educating people – particularly those living in the built environment – about the benefits and maintenance of such spaces builds stronger and healthier communities.
Devon is an ISA Certified Arborist with experience in nursery stock management, mature tree pruning and removal, planting, and young tree training. He has supervisory experience leading diverse crews with a combination of enthusiasm, patience, humor, and efficiency. Devon excels in community engagement and is always willing to learn from and share knowledge with people across our service area. Devon also serves as the Vice Chair for the Cleveland Tree Coalition’s Implementation Committee.
Prior to his role as Tree Care Coordinator, Devon worked at a private tree care company as an apprentice climber. He has operated his own tree care company for the last four years, working primarily on Cleveland’s east side. He is the Head Wrestling Coach at Charles F. Brush High School and also coaches wrestling through Beat The Streets Cleveland, a chapter of the national non-profit that seeks to foster youth development in urban environments through the sport of wrestling. As an AmeriCorps Member, Devon served two years through City Year Cleveland.
Devon majored in political science at The University of Chicago, with a focus on human rights and political theory. He attended Charles F. Brush High School on Cleveland’s east side and has TESOL, CPR, and First Aid certifications.
Devon also serves on the board for the Fund for the Future of Heights Libraries and is a Court Appointed Special Advocate in Cuyahoga County. In his free time, Devon loves to travel, learn new languages, read, play with his dogs, Zuko and Azula, and garden. He plays rugby and enjoys swimming, hiking, and being physically active in general. Devon and his partner, Eleni welcomed a son in the Fall of 2023.
