Sue Grimm honored at inaugural Legacy Society Dinner
The White Oak Legacy Society is a special group of Western Reserve Land Conservancy supporters who have made a lasting commitment to land conservation and restoration through a variety of estate planning tools.
On Oct. 21, 2015, members of this special group gathered for the Land Conservancy’s inaugural Legacy Society Dinner, an event designed to recognize all White Oak Legacy Society members for their examples of kindness, compassion and foresight.
At the event, the Land Conservancy honored Sue Grimm with the Art of Caring Award. The award was created to pay tribute to a White Oak Legacy Society individual or family who exemplifies the art of caring through their leadership, passion and vision.
In 2007, Dick Grimm and his wife, Sue, made a $1 million donation to the Land Conservancy’s land protection fund. At the time, it was the largest single gift in the history of the organization and enabled the Land Conservancy to accelerate its preservation of farmland and natural areas in northern Ohio. The Grimm Family made the donation knowing that it would be used over and over again and that it would be used to leverage additional dollars for conservation.
After Dick’s passing in 2012, the Land Conservancy established a committee of trustees and employees that worked closely with the Grimm family to create a permanent legacy in his honor. In an act of great love and generosity, Sue provided a $500,000 gift to inspire trustees and friends to contribute an additional $500,000 for a total of $1 million. These gifts provided funding for the naming of the Board room in the new headquarters, Harmony Hall.
In order to honor the unique gifts of the philanthropists who receive the Art of Caring award, local artists are commissioned to create unique artworks inspired by the generosity of our patrons. Each year the artwork will be different.
This year, Sue was presented with a beautiful watercolor painting of one of her favorite places –Silver Creek Farm. The artwork was created by a dear friend of Sue and the Land Conservancy, Carol Prior.
