Join us virtually on the evening of November 12, as we welcome Dr. Alexa Wagner from Hiram College for her presentation Forest Ecology in Action: Undergraduate Research at the Hiram College James H. Barrow Biological Field Station. Discover how research at the Hiram College’s James H. Barrow Biological Field Station sheds light on forest health, wildlife, and ecosystem dynamics. Dr. Wagner will discuss undergraduate research projects investigating forest drivers like beech leaf disease, bird community dynamics, deer habitat-use, and links between overstory and understory woody plant communities. We will learn how these studies reveal the complex interactions that shape forest resilience and biodiversity, and how undergraduates are contributing to meaningful hands-on research that will inform management strategies.

About Alexa Wagner
Dr. Alexa Wagner is a Visiting Research Assistant Professor of Forest Ecology and Management at Hiram College and the James H. Barrow Biological Field Station. She holds a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Case Western Reserve University. A native of the region, she has conducted research at Holden Arboretum investigating the effects of forest management on understory plant demography and has been actively involved in education and outreach throughout the Cleveland area. For a short time, she expanded her work internationally as Restoration Scientist for a private global startup and now brings her expertise to the James H. Barrow Biological Field Station, mentoring undergraduates and conducting research on northeastern Ohio forests.
