Field Exploration: Sandhill Cranes (overnight trip)

Thursday, December 4 at 9:00 AM till Friday, December 5 at 7:00 PM
Leaders: Judy Semroc, Naturalist and Field Biologist and Renee Boronka, Director of Conservation Education
Join us for an unforgettable overnight adventure to northern Indiana to witness one of the Midwest’s greatest natural spectacles—the migration of the Sandhill Cranes. Traveling together in a comfortable mini motorcoach, we’ll arrive at the famous Jasper-Pulaski Fish & Wildlife Area, where tens of thousands of cranes gather each evening in a breathtaking display of sound and motion. Afterward, we’ll check into our hotel and head to the renowned Journeyman Distillery, to enjoy a delicious dinner together. The following morning, we’ll visit with staff of the Shirley Heinze Land Trust and wrap up the morning with a walk at their newly dedicated Lydick Bog, an Indiana State Nature Preserve in South Bend that protects one of the last remaining sphagnum bog habitats in the state. This trip offers the perfect blend of nature, conservation, and camaraderie!
While sightings of Sandhill Cranes cannot be guaranteed, late fall is the peak season to witness these remarkable birds, making this the very best time of year to visit Jasper-Pulaski.
