Field Exploration: Owls

October 30, 2025 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
$10

Thursday, October 30 from 8:00 – 10:00 PM (Rain date: Sunday, November 2)

Lantern Court Estate at Red Oak Camp (Kirtland, OH)

Leaders: Naturalists: Ann Bugeda, Alison Huey, Dan Best, Trevor Wearstler and Dan Donaldson

Join us for a fun and educational evening all about owls of Ohio! While our focus will be on the Northern Saw-whet Owl, participants will also learn about other owl species that call our state home, such as the Great Horned Owl and the Barred Owl. Naturalists will share fascinating facts about these nighttime birds—how they hunt, where they live, and the unique calls they make. Families will then have the exciting opportunity to watch as experts safely capture and place identification bands on Northern Saw-whet Owls, helping scientists learn more about these amazing creatures. It’s a rare chance to experience owls up close and discover the magic of our nighttime neighbors.

Please be aware that there is never a guarantee of seeing owls, but historically this is the best time of year to try. Also, participants will not be walking to the nets during this event. The owls will be brought inside for banding.

This event is hosted by Project Owlnet in cooperation with other owl research stations in Ohio.
